Yes, Rory McIlroy can still win the Race to Dubai. After the Genesis Championship on 25 October closed the regular season, he is third on 3,144.86 points, 999.03 behind Eugenio Chacarra and 329.76 behind Patrick Reed. Two play-off wins in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) take him to 6,644.86. Chacarra would then need more than 2,500.97 points, which two second places cannot give him.
Key takeaways
- Chacarra leads on 4,143.89. Reed is 669.27 points back and McIlroy 999.03 back.
- The regular season is over. Every player can win 3,500 more points across the two play-off events.
- Two McIlroy wins beat two second places from Chacarra by 165.97 points.
- If Chacarra wins Abu Dhabi, McIlroy needs at least solo third there to stay alive.
- Nobody can clinch or be knocked out before the first play-off ends on 8 November.
Where do the Race to Dubai standings stand in 2026?
Chacarra leads the 2026 standings on 4,143.89 points. He moved top by winning in New Delhi and added 51.00 at the Genesis Championship, which Yuto Katsuragawa won, per his DP World Tour profile. The win was his third of the season, after the KLM Open and the Open d'Italia. It took him past Reed, who had led for more than seven months. Chacarra won by two shots on 21 under, with a broken toe. McIlroy tied for 42nd and banked 29 points, per the official results.
| Pos | Player | Points | Behind the leader | Genesis points | Highest possible total |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Eugenio Chacarra | 4,143.89 | Leader | 51.00 | 7,643.89 |
| 2 | Patrick Reed | 3,474.62 | 669.27 | Did not play | 6,974.62 |
| 3 | Rory McIlroy | 3,144.86 | 999.03 | Did not play | 6,644.86 |
| 4 | Casey Jarvis | 2,856.08 | 1,287.81 | 160.57 | 6,356.08 |
| 5 | Aaron Rai | 2,467.00 | 1,676.89 | Did not play | 5,967.00 |
The highest possible total assumes a player wins both play-off events. All five have confirmed for Abu Dhabi. Jarvis's total is from his DP World Tour profile.
How many Race to Dubai points are left?
McIlroy, like everyone else, can still earn 3,500 points. The Abu Dhabi Aldar Championship carries 9,000 points and the DP World Tour Championship 12,000, per the tour's Race to Dubai guide. Each player gets a share based on where he finishes.
Here are the shares, from the tour's published points breakdown:
| Finish | Abu Dhabi (5 to 8 Nov) | Dubai (12 to 15 Nov) |
|---|---|---|
| Win | 1,500 | 2,000 |
| Solo 2nd | 1,000 | 1,335 |
| Solo 3rd | 565 | 752 |
| Solo 4th | 450 | 600 |
| Solo 5th | 381 | 509 |
| Solo 10th | 180 | 240 |
| Solo 20th | 108 | 144 |
Ties split the points. Players who tie add up the shares for the places they cover and divide them equally. In India, Adrian Meronk and Angel Hidalgo tied for third and got 281 each, half of 312 plus 250. That is why every scenario below says "solo".
What does McIlroy need to win the Race to Dubai?
McIlroy's surest route is to win both play-off events, and a Dubai win alone is enough if Chacarra finishes outside the top two there. Each row below starts from the standings after Genesis.
| McIlroy's results | What else has to happen | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Wins Abu Dhabi and Dubai | Nothing from Chacarra. Two second places leave him 165.97 short | Champion on 6,644.86 |
| Wins Dubai | Chacarra finishes Dubai outside the top two, and outscores McIlroy by less than 248.97 in Abu Dhabi | Champion |
| Wins Dubai | Chacarra ties for second with one other player (1,043.50 points) and Abu Dhabi is level | Not enough. McIlroy ends 42.53 behind |
| Wins Dubai | Chacarra is solo second in Dubai | Not enough from today's gap. McIlroy must trail by less than 665 going into Dubai |
| Wins Abu Dhabi | Chacarra finishes solo fourth or worse there | Takes the lead, by at least 50.97 |
| Wins Abu Dhabi | Chacarra is solo third there | Still 64.03 behind |
Reed has to be beaten too, but the numbers favour McIlroy there. If McIlroy wins Dubai and Reed is solo second, McIlroy finishes 335.24 ahead of Reed, as long as their Abu Dhabi results are level. Reed's best result in each event is second place if McIlroy wins both, which leaves Reed on 5,809.62.
Who wins if two players tie?
A tie for first in a tournament goes to a sudden-death play-off. Last year McIlroy lost a play-off in Dubai to Matt Fitzpatrick and still won the season title. Ties for any other place share the points, as shown above.
A tie in the season standings is a different matter. The tour's public pages we read do not set out a tie-break for the final ranking. Points run to two decimal places, so an exact tie is unlikely, but we treat one as unresolved rather than guess.
When could McIlroy be mathematically eliminated?
After the Abu Dhabi Aldar Championship on 8 November, at the earliest. Only 2,000 points remain after it, so McIlroy is out if anyone leads him by more than 2,000.
From today's gap, that happens if Chacarra wins in Abu Dhabi and McIlroy finishes solo fourth or worse. The gap would then be at least 2,049.03. A solo third place for McIlroy leaves it at 1,934.03, and he stays alive by 65.97 points.
Genesis did not knock anyone in the top five out. Chacarra's 51.00 points there stretched the gap to 999.03, with 3,500 still to play for.
When can Chacarra clinch the Race to Dubai?
Chacarra can clinch the title in Abu Dhabi on 8 November at the earliest. He needs a lead of more than 2,000 over every rival once that event ends.
The route: win Abu Dhabi, which takes him to 5,643.89, while Reed scores fewer than 169.27 points there (solo 10th is worth 180), McIlroy finishes solo fourth or worse and Jarvis is not solo second. Rai, Fox and everyone below them would be out of reach whatever they did. If any of those three conditions fails, the title goes to Dubai.
Who can still win the Race to Dubai?
On today's numbers, any player in the Abu Dhabi field with more than 643.89 points who also makes it to Dubai, because two wins would add 3,500 and take him past Chacarra's current total. In practice the contest is between the top five:
| Player | Points | Needs | Cluster page |
|---|---|---|---|
| Eugenio Chacarra | 4,143.89 | Hold the lead. Earliest clinch is Abu Dhabi on 8 November | No separate page yet |
| Patrick Reed | 3,474.62 | Two wins give him 6,974.62. Chacarra must then add less than 2,830.73 | No separate page yet |
| Rory McIlroy | 3,144.86 | Two wins give him 6,644.86. Chacarra must add less than 2,500.97 | This page |
| Casey Jarvis | 2,856.08 | Two wins give him 6,356.08. Chacarra must add less than 2,212.19 | No separate page yet |
| Aaron Rai | 2,467.00 | Two wins give him 5,967.00. Chacarra must add less than 1,823.11 | No separate page yet |
McIlroy has won the title seven times and is chasing an eighth, which would draw him level with Colin Montgomerie's record. Reed won the Hero Dubai Desert Classic and the Qatar Masters this season.
What are the Race to Dubai projected rankings?
The projected rankings show where every player would stand if the current event ended now. The DP World Tour recalculates them live from the leaderboard on its Projected Rankings page. They are the quickest way to follow the play-offs hole by hole.
During Genesis the projections moved with every round. The final table put Jarvis fourth on 2,856.08 and left Chacarra top. The tables on this page show what each finish would be worth before an event starts.
Which event could decide it?
The title can be settled in Abu Dhabi on 8 November at the earliest, and otherwise in Dubai on 15 November. Each row shows how many points one player can still win after that event. A player who trails by more than that number is out.

What does this maths leave out?
The numbers on this page count Race to Dubai points and nothing else. They do not predict form, injuries or withdrawals, and they carry no odds. Ties change the shares, so check the projected rankings during each event. The full method is in the methodology note below.

How we did this comparison
This post calculates Race to Dubai points only. The base is the official Race to Dubai Rankings on the DP World Tour website, marked "Accurate after: DP World India Championship 2026" (18 October 2026), updated with the Race to Dubai points shown on each player's official DP World Tour profile after the Genesis Championship (22 to 25 October), the last regular-season event. Rory McIlroy, Patrick Reed and Aaron Rai did not play Genesis, so their totals are unchanged.
Points per finishing position come from the DP World Tour's published breakdown: 9,000 points at the Abu Dhabi Aldar Championship (1,500 to the winner) and 12,000 at the DP World Tour Championship (2,000 to the winner). The tour notes that the table is subject to change for ties and cuts. Players who tie share the points for the places they cover, which we checked against the official India results. Every scenario was computed by script and is rounded to two decimal places, as the tour does.
We do not predict form, injuries, withdrawals or who wins any event, and we do not use betting odds. The tour's public pages we read do not state a tie-break for the season ranking itself, so we treat an exact tie as unresolved. We update this post after each remaining event.
