Best eSIM for Egypt 2027: $11.95 Covers Cairo and the Nile

Updated Oct 22, 2026Pricing verified Oct 22, 202611 sources cited

The best eSIM for Egypt on a Cairo and Nile cruise trip is our Egypt country plan with 10GB for 15 days, at $11.95 on the Orange network. Abu Simbel's sun festival, when sunrise lights the temple's inner sanctuary, fell on 22 October 2026. The next is 22 February 2027. The bigger date comes later: a total solar eclipse crosses Luxor on 2 August 2027.

Two groups can skip this guide. If your phone is carrier-locked or has no eSIM support, none of these plans will install, so check our eSIM compatibility guide first. And if Egypt is a short stopover inside a longer trip on a work phone with roaming paid for, a carrier day pass needs no setup.

    Key takeaways

    • City plus a river cruise, 10 to 15 days: 10GB for 15 days costs $11.95.
    • Light users on hotel wifi: 5GB for 15 days costs $7.95.
    • Every country plan runs on Orange and carries data only, with no local number.
    • Total eclipse on 2 August 2027: 6 min 23 s at its peak, east of Luxor.
    • Foreign adult tickets at the new Giza museum rise to 1,830 pounds on 1 November.

What's new in Egypt for travellers in 2026 and 2027?

Five dated changes land between now and August 2027. They are a new UK route, a museum price rise, a first Jet2 season, the February sun alignment and the eclipse.

The new Birmingham route. Egypt's flag carrier flies it nonstop four days a week, according to a June trade report. The route runs all year, so it works for a February temple trip and for the eclipse in August.

Jet2 adds two beach resorts. The airline's September 2026 release adds Hurghada and Sharm El Sheikh to its winter programme. Six of its UK bases fly to both resorts, and a seventh flies to Hurghada only. A November 2025 report, citing government officials, dates the first flights to February 2027.

Abu Simbel, twice a year. On 22 October and 22 February, sunrise travels the length of the main temple. It lights three of the four statues in the sanctuary, including the deified king Ramesses. The fourth stays dark. The report from 21 October 2026 cites the tourism ministry for both dates, and adds that conservators cleaned the temple's murals ahead of the autumn event.

When is the Egypt eclipse in 2027, and where should you watch it?

The total solar eclipse falls on Monday 2 August 2027, and Luxor is the easiest base to see it from. NASA's eclipse data puts the point of greatest eclipse in the desert east of Luxor, at 10:06 Universal Time. Totality there lasts 6 minutes 23 seconds, with the Sun almost overhead.

The shadow path is 257.7 km wide. We read NASA's interactive path map for the places this guide covers:

    • Luxor: close to the central line, so near the longest totality on offer.
    • Aswan: right on the southern edge, so totality is brief at best.
    • The Red Sea resorts: north of the path, so guests see a partial eclipse unless they travel south.
    • Cairo and Giza: well north of the path, partial only.

From Aswan, head north for a longer totality.

Click your own hotel on the map before you book. NASA notes that the Moon's uneven outline can move contact times by 1 to 3 seconds, which matters most near the edges.

Much of the path west of the river runs through desert that the UK government advises against for all but necessary trips. Luxor, Aswan and Abu Simbel are named exceptions, which makes Luxor the place to plan around.

For the eclipse itself you need almost no data. You need it the day before, for maps, ride-hailing and messages to the group you are meeting. Download an offline map of the Luxor area before eclipse day, in case the network is busy with crowds.

Which Egypt eSIM plan fits a Nile cruise and Cairo trip?

Take 10GB for 15 days at $11.95 for the classic trip: three or four nights in Cairo and Giza plus a cruise between Luxor and Aswan. The 15-day plan costs the same as the 10-day one, so the spare days are free.

    30GB$24.95$26.95$27.95$29.95

Prices are what you pay through the links on this blog, read from our live product feed on 22 October 2026.

Match the plan to the trip:

    • A long weekend, or a beach week on hotel Wi-Fi: 5GB for 10 days, $7.95.
    • The classic city and cruise trip: 10GB for 15 days, $11.95.
    • Same trip with daily video calls or a laptop hotspot: 20GB for 15 days, $19.95.
    • Eclipse trip of two to four weeks: 15GB for 30 days, $15.95.

Egypt costs more per gigabyte than most of the places we sell. The same 10GB for 15 days costs $5.95 on our Turkey country plan, half the Egypt price. Buy the size you need rather than the biggest plan.

Do not plan your trip around signal on the river or in the desert. We did not test coverage on cruise boats, on the temple road south of Aswan or away from the river towns. Load tickets, boarding passes and maps while you have a connection in town.

We have no regional plan to recommend here. The country is not in our 33-country Europe plan or our 12-country Asia-Pacific plan. A trip that adds Istanbul needs two plans; our Turkey eSIM guide covers that leg, and our Europe 2027 guide covers the onward trip if you continue north.

Is eSIM available in Egypt, and which network do our plans use?

Yes, a travel eSIM works in Egypt: you install it before you fly, and it connects to a local network when you land. Every Egypt country plan we sold on 22 October 2026 ran on Orange, and your phone shows that name once the eSIM connects.

The plans carry data only. Keep your home line switched on for calls and texted sign-in codes. Turn data roaming off on that line so it cannot bill you by the day. WhatsApp and other apps run over the eSIM's data as normal.

Set it up at home on Wi-Fi:

    1. Buy the plan a few days before you fly. The code, a square barcode you scan, arrives by email and on the website. It is website-only, with no app needed.
    2. Scan the code in your phone's settings and leave the new line switched off.
    3. Turn the line on when the plane lands.
    4. If it connects but no data flows, turn on data roaming for the eSIM line only.

Our troubleshooting guide covers the rarer problems, and our guide to travel eSIM benefits explains why you keep your home number while using local data.

How much is the Grand Egyptian Museum ticket from November 2026?

From 1 November 2026, a foreign adult ticket costs 1,830 Egyptian pounds. The old price was 1,570. That figure comes from a Cairo newspaper report on 18 October. A second report credits the tourism ministry and puts the new price at about $35.

Foreign students and children pay 920 pounds, up from 790. The galleries open at 9am and close at 6pm. On two evenings a week they stay open until 9pm, and the last ticket goes on sale an hour before closing.

You buy tickets on the official booking site, which shows a price only after you choose a date and ticket type. Book on the day from your phone in Giza and you need working data, so switch the eSIM on before you reach the door. Visitors pick the foreign category, since the cheaper resident rate needs proof of residency.

Do you need a visa for Egypt in 2026?

If your passport needs a visa, Egypt's official e-visa portal sells a single-entry tourist visa for $30 and a multiple-entry one for $65. Check your own nationality on the same portal before you book.

Three rules from the portal matter for planning:

    • Apply at least seven days before departure. The portal says so on its home page.
    • Pay online by Visa, Mastercard or another debit card.
    • Carry a passport valid for at least six months from your arrival date.

The approved e-visa arrives as a download link, and border officers check it on their own system. Save a copy offline in case the arrivals hall is busy.

Which parts of Egypt does this guide cover?

Our recommendations stay in the capital and Giza, the river towns from Luxor to Abu Simbel, and the two big beach resorts. None of them sits in an area the UK government advises against, per its advice updated on 4 August 2026.

The same page advises against travel to the north of Sinai and a 20 km strip along the western border. It adds the land east of the canal in Ismailiyah governorate and most of the desert west of the river. Nothing in this guide sends you there.

    Frequently asked questions

What is the best eSIM for Egypt for a 10-day Cairo and Nile cruise trip?+
Our Egypt country plan with 10GB for 15 days, at $11.95 on 22 October 2026. It runs on Orange and covers a typical week on a cruise between Luxor and Aswan plus three or four days in Cairo, with spare days for flight delays. Light users who mostly use hotel and boat Wi-Fi can take 5GB for 15 days at $7.95 instead.
Is there a regional eSIM that covers Egypt and other countries?+
Not from Lotsotravel. Egypt is not in our 33-country Europe plan or our 12-country Asia-Pacific plan, and we sell no Middle East or Africa regional plan. If your trip pairs Egypt with Turkey or a European city, buy an Egypt country plan for the Egypt leg and a second plan for the rest. Each one installs from its own QR code.
When is the 2027 solar eclipse in Egypt?+
On Monday 2 August 2027. NASA puts the point of greatest eclipse in Upper Egypt at 25.5°N, 33.2°E, east of Luxor, at 10:06 UT, with 6 minutes 23 seconds of totality and a path 257.7 km wide. Luxor sits close to the central line. Hurghada and Sharm El Sheikh sit north of the path on NASA's map, so resort guests travel south to see totality.
How much is the Grand Egyptian Museum ticket from November 2026?+
From 1 November 2026, a foreign adult ticket costs EGP 1,830, up from EGP 1,570, according to Al-Masry Al-Youm as republished by Egypt Independent on 18 October 2026. Foreign students and children pay EGP 920. Tickets are bought online on the official GEM booking site, which shows the price after you choose a date and ticket type, so you need data or Wi-Fi to book.
How much is the Egypt tourist e-visa in 2026?+
Egypt's official e-visa portal lists a single-entry tourist visa at $30 and a multiple-entry tourist visa at $65. The portal asks you to apply at least seven days before departure and to pay by Visa, Mastercard or another debit card. Arrival rules on the same site ask for a passport valid for at least six months from your arrival date.
When are the Abu Simbel sun festival dates?+
Every 22 October and 22 February. On those mornings the rising sun reaches the inner sanctuary of the Great Temple of Ramesses II and lights three of its four statues, while the statue of Ptah stays in shadow. The October 2026 alignment has passed, so the next one falls on 22 February 2027. Abu Simbel sits outside the areas the UK government advises against.

    Methodology

    How we did this comparison

Lotsotravel prices come from our live v3 product API (/api/v3/products?country=EG), read on 22 October 2026. We quote the VIP price, which is what you pay when you arrive through a link on this blog, and fixed-data plans only. Every Egypt country plan (countryCount 1 in the API) listed Orange as its network on that date. Our supplier's catalogue can change, which is what the carrierVerified date tracks.

Eclipse figures come from NASA's Goddard eclipse data and its path map for 2 August 2027. Where we say which towns fall inside or outside the path, that is our reading of NASA's map, so check your own spot on it. Visa fees come from Egypt's official e-visa portal. Flight dates come from Jet2's own newsroom and from trade and news reports, each linked. Grand Egyptian Museum prices come from news reports, because the museum's booking site shows a price only once you pick a ticket.

What this post does not measure: we ran no speed tests in Egypt, we did not check signal on Nile cruise boats, in the desert or on the road to Abu Simbel, and we do not compare customer support. The plans are data only, with no Egyptian phone number.
