How to Activate a Rogers Travel Pass (and Use It Abroad)

Updated Nov 5, 2026Pricing verified Oct 30, 20266 sources cited

To activate a Rogers Travel Pass, sign in to MyRogers, open Manage add-ons on the number that's travelling, pick the pass for your destination, and set a start date. The pass switches on at 12 a.m. Eastern Time on that date, not when you land. Then turn on data roaming on your phone once you arrive. That's the whole process, and it takes about two minutes.

A Rogers Travel Pass is a prepaid add-on that lets you use your existing plan's data, talk and text in a set group of destinations for 3, 7, 14 or 30 days at one price. It doesn't add data. It unlocks the allowance you already pay for at home. Every step below comes from Rogers' own Travel Pass FAQ, read on 30 October 2026, along with the rules that decide whether you get billed extra.

A Rogers Travel Pass runs from the start date you pick in MyRogers, from 12 a.m. ET on day one.

Before you buy: check that Roam Like Home is on

Travel Passes are part of Rogers' Roam Like Home program, so the line needs to be enrolled first. Text TRAVEL to 222 from the phone that's travelling. Rogers replies with your enrollment status.

Two other things block a pass from working, and both are on Rogers' "How can I make sure it works?" checklist:

    • Roaming blocks on the account. If anyone on the account ever added a roaming block, remove it. Rogers' virtual assistant can tell you whether one is there.
    • Roam Like Home disabled. If you opted out at some point, reactivate it for your travel dates.

How to buy a Rogers Travel Pass on rogers.com

    1. Sign in to MyRogers at rogers.com.
    2. In Overview, select Manage on the number you want to add the pass to.
    3. Under My add-ons, select Manage add-ons.
    4. Choose the Travel Pass you want and select Add to cart.
    5. Select your travel start date.
    6. Select See full details to read the add-on terms.
    7. Tick the box to accept the terms, then select Place order.

How to buy a Rogers Travel Pass in the MyRogers app

    1. Open Services, use the dropdown, and pick the number that's travelling.
    2. Open the Plan tab.
    3. Under My add-ons, select Manage add-ons.
    4. Select the Travel Pass you want.
    5. Under Select start date, choose the day the pass should begin.
    6. Read the add-on details, tick the terms box, and select Place order.

The charge appears on the bill after the pass's activation date, not on the day you order it.

    How the start date works

This is the part most people get wrong. A Rogers Travel Pass does not start on your first use abroad. It starts on the date you selected, at 12 a.m. ET, and ends at 11:59 p.m. ET on its last day, regardless of your time zone.

That has three consequences worth planning around:

    • Set the start date to your arrival day. If you land in Tokyo on the 12th local time, check what date that is in Toronto. An overnight flight from Vancouver can land "tomorrow" in Asia while it's still "today" in Eastern Time.
    • You can buy up to 60 days ahead. Ordering early costs nothing extra, because the clock doesn't run until the start date.
    • You can't backdate it. Buy a pass mid-trip and every roaming day before its start date is billed at the Roam Like Home daily rate: $16 CAD in the US, $18 CAD in other eligible destinations, per Rogers' roaming page.

Changing or cancelling the start date

You can move or cancel a pass right up until the day before it starts. On the start date itself, you can't do either.

    • Change the date on rogers.com: MyRogers, Overview, Manage on the number, Manage Travel Pass, Edit date, pick the new date, Save changes.
    • Change the date in the app: Services, pick the number, Plan tab, Manage add-ons, select the pass, Edit, pick the date, OK.
    • Cancel: the same path, then Remove (or Remove Travel Pass in the app) and confirm. A pending pass you cancel isn't charged.

Once a pass has activated it is non-refundable, and Rogers' terms say it can't be paused.

How to use the pass when you arrive

    1. Turn off airplane mode once you're on the ground.
    2. Turn on data roaming for your Rogers line. On iPhone: Settings, Cellular, tap the Rogers line, Data Roaming on. On Android: Settings, Network & internet, SIMs, Rogers, Roaming on.
    3. Wait for the welcome text. Rogers sends a free text when you arrive. If Roam Like Home isn't available there, your plan isn't eligible, or you opted out, that text lists pay-per-use rates instead, so read it.
    4. Use your phone normally. Calls and texts to Canada and within the country you're in come out of your plan.

If the phone shows no service, Rogers' troubleshooting advice is to confirm data roaming is on, that airplane mode is off, and then try picking a network manually.

What a Travel Pass covers, and what it doesn't

The pass is less a bundle than a permission slip for your existing plan. A few rules from Rogers' FAQ catch people out:

    • No extra data. Rogers says Travel Passes don't have a separate usage bucket. A 100GB plan is still 100GB for the month, Canada and abroad combined.
    • Calls between pass countries cost extra. On a Europe pass in France, calling Germany is long distance unless your plan includes it. You're covered for calls within the country you're in and to Canada (and to the US and Mexico if your plan includes those).
    • One pass per line. A family of four with four phones needs four passes.
    • Leaving the region switches billing. Step outside the pass's destination list, or keep roaming after it ends, and Roam Like Home daily, cruise or standard roaming rates apply.
    • Passes don't renew. For a longer trip, buy a second pass with a start date the day after the first one ends.

Rogers sells regional passes for the US, Europe, Asia, Oceania, Africa, and Central & South America, an International pass that covers 180+ destinations, and cruise-plus-land combinations. The Europe pass list includes the UK, Switzerland, Norway and Turkey; Morocco and Egypt sit on the Africa pass instead. Check your exact country on the destination list in Rogers' FAQ before you buy.

Which pass to pick, and what it costs

Prices below are Rogers' published pre-tax CAD prices on 30 October 2026.

    Pass3 days7 days14 days30 days
    US$25$50$60$80
    Europe$30$55$70$90
    Asia$30$55$70$90
    Oceania$30$55$70$90
    Central & South America$30$55$70$90
    Africa$40$70$95$115
    International (180+ destinations)$45$75$100$120

For Mexico and the Caribbean, the roaming page prices a US, Mexico & Caribbean + Cruises pass (3 days $50, 7 days $100, 10 days $140, 14 days $190) alongside the International pass, which also covers Mexico and the Caribbean and costs less at 3, 7 and 14 days.

    Two shortcuts:

    • Visiting two regions? Compare one International pass against two regional ones. A week in Europe then a week in Asia is $100 on one 14-day International pass versus $110 on a 7-day Europe pass plus a 7-day Asia pass.
    • Check your plan first. Rogers' 5G+ Popular plan lists 25% off Roam Like Home daily rates and Travel Passes, and 5G+ Ultimate lists 50% off, on the eligible line. Rogers notes the discount won't show in the order summary, only on your bill. Our guide to whether Rogers roaming is ever free covers which plans include roaming outright.

For what each pass costs against a prepaid eSIM on the same trip, we ran the numbers in Rogers Travel Pass vs eSIM.

How to avoid a daily charge around your pass

The pass covers its dates and its destinations. Everything outside that window bills by the day. The common leaks:

    • Arrival before the start date. A delayed itinerary or a time-zone slip puts a day of roaming before the pass begins. Move the start date in MyRogers up to the day before it would have started.
    • A stopover in another region. A layover in the US on the way to Europe with data roaming on is a $16 US day, outside a Europe pass.
    • Wi-Fi isn't a guarantee. Rogers' roaming charges FAQ warns that iMessage can fall back to SMS, and background refresh, Wi-Fi Assist and cloud backups can use cellular data when Wi-Fi drops, all of which count as roaming.

Rogers Travel Pass or an eSIM?

A pass is the low-effort option: nothing to install, your number works, one bill. It also prices like a carrier product. A two-week Europe pass is $70 CAD for your own plan's data, while a Lotsotravel Europe eSIM with 10GB for 15 days is $8.95 USD on top of your plan. If you'd rather keep your Canadian allowance untouched and pay less, the dual-SIM setup in our Roam Like Home vs eSIM guide keeps your Rogers number live for calls and texts while the eSIM carries the data. Frequently asked questions

How do I activate a Rogers Travel Pass?+
Sign in to MyRogers (website or app), open Manage add-ons on the number that's travelling, choose the Travel Pass for your region, set the start date, accept the terms and place the order. On the start date the pass switches on at 12 a.m. Eastern Time. Turn on data roaming on your phone when you land, and Rogers sends a welcome text.
Does a Rogers Travel Pass start when I land or on the date I choose?+
On the date you choose. Rogers' terms say the pass activates on the start date selected at purchase, running from 12 a.m. ET on day one to 11:59 p.m. ET on the last day. It does not wait for your first use abroad, so set the start date to the day you arrive.
Can I buy a Rogers Travel Pass after I've already started travelling?+
Yes, you can buy one while abroad, but you can't backdate it. Any days you roamed before the pass's start date are billed at the Roam Like Home daily rate, which Rogers lists at $16 CAD a day in the US and $18 CAD a day in other eligible destinations.
    Can I cancel a Rogers Travel Pass?+
Only before it starts. A pending pass can be removed in MyRogers at no charge, and its start date can be edited, but neither is possible on the start date itself. Once a pass has activated it is non-refundable and cannot be paused.
Does a Rogers Travel Pass come with its own data?+
No. Rogers states that Travel Passes have no separate usage bucket. The pass lets you use the data, talk and text already in your monthly plan, so whatever you use abroad comes out of the same allowance you use in Canada.
Do I need one Travel Pass per phone?+
Yes. Rogers applies Travel Passes per mobile line, so each number on a shared account that is travelling needs its own pass.

    Methodology

    How we did this comparison

Every step and rule in this guide was read from Rogers' own consumer pages on 30 October 2026: the Roam Like Home Travel Pass FAQ, the roaming options page and its terms footnotes, the roaming charges FAQ, and the mobile plans page. Pass prices are Rogers' published pre-tax CAD prices for consumer postpaid lines. Menu labels in MyRogers can change between app releases, so if a screen looks different, the Travel Pass FAQ linked below is the reference.

This is a how-to, not a cost comparison. For what a pass costs against a travel eSIM on real itineraries, see our Rogers Travel Pass vs eSIM breakdown.
