LA 2028 Olympic Football: Seven Cities, Seven Stadiums, One Data Plan

The 2026 World Cup taught fans following a team across North America an expensive lesson: three countries, three roaming regimes, and a phone that quietly picked up a daily fee every time it found a new network at a border.

Olympic football in 2028 asks for the same kind of trip and drops that tax entirely. LA28 is staging the tournament across seven stadiums in seven cities, from Queens to San Diego, and every single one of them is in the United States. Buy one plan, fly between cities, keep the same line.

The seven venues

LA28 confirmed the football map with six cities outside Los Angeles feeding into final stages back in Pasadena:

A few of these are worth knowing about before you book. The New York venue is being built in Queens as New York City FC's first soccer-specific home and, per LA28, Major League Soccer's first fully electric stadium. Nashville is the largest soccer-specific venue in the United States. St. Louis sits on what LA28 calls the largest urban professional sports campus in the country. And the Rose Bowl is a National Historic Landmark that held the 1994 men's World Cup final and the 1999 women's World Cup final, and which 2028 turns into only the second venue ever used at three Olympic Games.

The shape of the tournament

Group and knockout matches run in the six cities outside Los Angeles, and the final stages come back to the Rose Bowl. The men's gold medal match is on July 28, 2028 and the women's on July 29, 2028.

The team numbers changed for 2028: sixteen women's teams and twelve men's. LA28 has pointed out that this is the first time an Olympic football tournament has fielded more women's sides than men's.

Why this trip is different from a World Cup trip

Anyone who followed a team through 2026 will recognise the logistics, and will find the bill much smaller.

At the World Cup, a fan going from a group game in the US to a Round of 32 match in Canada or Mexico needed a separate data plan for each country, stored on the same phone and switched over in Settings at each border. Sizing a multi-city plan

A single match day is 1 to 3 GB. Following a team is a different profile entirely, because most of the data goes on the days between matches:

• Flights and airports. Boarding passes, gate changes, rebooking when a connection slips, and a lot of time on a phone in transit.
• New city, every few days. Fresh maps to load, hotel check-in, transit apps you are opening for the first time, rideshare somewhere unfamiliar.
• Match days themselves. Mobile ticket at the gate, journeys in and out, group chats, clips.

That adds up much faster than a fortnight based in one city.

Practicalities before you book flights

LA28 has published a travel page worth reading if you are coming from abroad, and two points on it are easy to miss. Most airlines release schedules eleven to twelve months ahead, so summer 2028 flights become bookable during 2027. And your ticket and your visa stay two separate problems: LA28 states plainly that entry to the United States rests on your travel documents alone, and directs international visitors to the US Department of State for the requirements.
