The best eSIM for Korea on a Seoul-only October trip is our Korea country plan: 10GB for 15 days costs $5.95. If Tokyo is on the same ticket, take our 12-country Asia-Pacific plan instead. Expect crowds. Seoul Welcome Week runs to 11 October 2026. On 20 September, Trip.com reported flight bookings to the city up 91% for the October holiday week.
Two groups can skip this guide. First, if your phone is carrier-locked or has no eSIM support, none of these plans will install, so check our eSIM compatibility guide first. And if your employer pays for roaming, a daily pass from your carrier works with no setup.
Key takeaways
- Seoul only: 10GB for 15 days costs $5.95.
- Two or more Asian countries: the 12-country regional plan, 10GB for 15 days at $8.95.
- The country plans run on LG U+ and carry data only, with no local phone number.
- Most Western passports need no K-ETA until 31 December 2026, only a free arrival form.
- Roaming passes cost $12 a day, so a week comes to $84.
What changed this week: Welcome Week and the Golden Week rush
The Seoul Metropolitan Government runs this year's Welcome Week from 19 September to 11 October. The city timed it for a run of holidays across the region, including China's National Day holiday.
Here is what a visitor gets.
- A free heritage pass. The tourist desks at Incheon and Gimpo airports hand out the Discover Seoul Pass Heritage Edition while supplies last. It gives free entry to 12 heritage sites, including the four major palaces.
- Cheaper river cruises. Foreign tourists get 20% off river cruise tickets for all 23 days.
- A help desk in Myeong-dong. From 1 to 8 October, a welcome booth offers interpreters and K-pop shows.
- Culture classes. Traditional dance and rice-cake making run at the city's culture lounge until 10 October.
The pass lives on your phone. So install the eSIM before you fly and switch it on as you land, and the pass will load while you are still standing at the desk.
The crowd signal came a day later. A Trip.com release on 20 September named the city the top holiday destination worldwide for Golden Week, China's holiday week in early October. International flight bookings there were up 91% on last year. Expect the first week of October to be the busiest stretch of the month at the palaces and in the shopping streets.
Which eSIM for Korea: country plan or regional plan?
Buy the country plan if Korea is your only stop, and the regional Asia-Pacific plan if the trip crosses a border. The country plan gives more data per dollar, while the regional one saves you a second purchase and a second install.
| Plan (fixed data) | Covers | 5 days | 10 days | 15 days | 30 days |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| South Korea 5GB | Korea | none | $4.95 | $4.95 | $4.95 |
| South Korea 10GB | Korea | $4.95 | $5.95 | $5.95 | $6.95 |
| South Korea 20GB | Korea | $8.95 | $9.95 | $9.95 | $10.95 |
| Asia-Pacific 5GB | 12 countries | $5.95 | $5.95 | $5.95 | $5.95 |
| Asia-Pacific 10GB | 12 countries | $7.95 | $8.95 | $8.95 | $9.95 |
| Asia-Pacific 20GB | 12 countries | $12.95 | $14.95 | $15.95 | $16.95 |
| Regional plan | Countries covered |
|---|---|
| Asia-Pacific (12) | Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, Macau, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Australia, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, New Zealand |
| 13 Countries | Thailand, China, Vietnam, Philippines, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Japan, Cambodia, Indonesia, Macau, Australia, South Korea, Malaysia |
Prices are what you pay through the links on this blog, read from our live product feed on 25 September 2026.
Mainland China is not in the Asia-Pacific plan. If your trip pairs Seoul with a mainland city, the 13-country plan covers both, at $11.95 for 10GB over 15 days.
Here is a worked example for 10 days split between Seoul and Tokyo. The regional 10GB plan for 10 days costs $8.95. Two separate plans cost $10.90: the Korea 10GB plan plus a Japan 5GB plan. The regional plan saves $1.95 and one install.
Its data is shared across both countries, so a heavy week in one city leaves less for the other. Our Japan carrier breakdown explains which network each option uses there.
Every country plan listed LG U+ as its network when we checked on 25 September. Your phone shows that name once the eSIM connects.
How much data do you need in Seoul?
Take 10GB for any trip up to 15 days. On the country plans, going from 5GB to 10GB costs $1 at most, so the smaller plan saves you almost nothing.
Visitors lean on local apps here. A government tourism study surveyed visitors at airports and train stations. It found 56.2% used the local Naver Map app, against 33.9% for the Google equivalent. For translation, 48.3% used the local app Papago. Visitors said the local apps were more accurate for getting around.
Taxis are easier than they used to be. In June 2024 the maker of the Kakao T app launched k.ride, which takes a card from home and translates your chat with the driver.
A simple way to size the plan:
- Up to 5 days: 10GB for 5 days, $4.95, the same price as 5GB.
- One to two weeks: 10GB for 15 days, $5.95, the same price as the 10-day plan.
- Laptop hotspot or nightly video uploads: 20GB for 15 days, $9.95.
- Up to a month: 10GB for 30 days at $6.95, or 20GB at $10.95.
The plans are data only. Leave your home line on for calls and texted sign-in codes, but turn data roaming off on that line so it cannot bill you by the day.
What's on in Seoul in October 2026?
Four things set the October calendar: Welcome Week until the 11th, holiday crowds in the first week, two free drone shows, and festivals within a train ride. The dates below come from the organisers.
| Date | Event | Where | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| to 11 Oct | Seoul Welcome Week: free heritage pass, 20% off Seoul Cruise | Airports, Myeong-dong, Yeouido | Seoul Metropolitan Government |
| 1–8 Oct | Welcome booth with interpreters and K-pop | Near Myeongdong Station Exit 6 | Seoul Metropolitan Government |
| 2–4 Oct | Busan International Rock Festival | Sasang-gu, Busan | VisitKorea |
| 4–11 Oct | Suwon Hwaseong Festival | Suwon, Gyeonggi-do | VisitKorea |
| 6–15 Oct | Busan International Film Festival | Haeundae-gu, Busan | VisitKorea |
| 9 Oct | Hangang drone light show, 20:30–20:45 | Ttukseom Hangang Park | Official show site |
| 31 Oct | Hangang drone light show, 20:30–20:45 | Ttukseom Hangang Park | Official show site |
The drone shows are free to watch from the riverside parks, according to the city government. The show site warns that rain or strong wind can cancel or delay them.
Two of those festivals sit outside the capital, but the country plan covers all of Korea, so a train to Suwon or Busan needs no extra purchase.
One date to cross off: the fireworks festival on the river already took place, on 5 September this year, per the tourism board.
Do you need a K-ETA for Korea in October 2026?
No, if your passport is on the exemption list below. Korea has waived its electronic travel authorisation (K-ETA) for these passports until 31 December 2026, per the Korean Embassy in the USA.
| Region | Passports exempt until 31 December 2026 |
|---|---|
| Asia | Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Macao |
| Americas | Canada, US, Guam |
| Europe | UK, Germany, France, Italy, Netherlands, Spain, Poland, Sweden, Finland, Norway, Belgium, Denmark, Austria, Switzerland, Liechtenstein |
| Oceania | Australia, New Zealand |

If your passport is on the list, you have two choices:
- File the free arrival form. The e-Arrival Card opens three days before you land.
- Pay for a K-ETA anyway. An approved K-ETA lets you skip the arrival form, and an existing one stays valid until it expires.
Other nationalities should check the official K-ETA site or their nearest embassy before booking. Both forms are filed online. If you leave yours until the flight, you need working data at the gate.
eSIM vs pocket Wi-Fi vs roaming in Korea
For one or two travellers, an eSIM costs the least and needs no pickup. Roaming is the easiest option and the most expensive. A rented hotspot suits a group that moves around together.
| Lotsotravel Korea eSIM | Pocket Wi-Fi rental | Verizon TravelPass | AT&T International Day Pass | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Price for 7 days | $5.95 (10GB, 10 days) | not stated per day on the page we checked | $84 ($12/day) | $84 ($12/day) |
| Price for 15 days | $5.95 (10GB, 15 days) | as above | $180 | $180 |
| Pickup | none, QR code delivered through the website | Incheon T1, T2, Gimpo or Gimhae counter | none | none |
| Phones per plan | one | up to three | one line | one line, $6/day per extra line |
| Keeps your home number | yes, on your physical SIM | yes | yes | yes |
| Needs charging | no | yes, up to 16 hours per charge | no | no |
Sources: Verizon's country list prices Korea at $12 a day. AT&T's day pass page lists $12 a day on land. The hotspot details come from one rental company's product page.
The rental company's page lists unlimited 4G data and up to three connected devices. You collect it at an airport counter with your passport and a credit card valid for three more months, and hand it back there before you fly.
The carrier passes include calls and texts, which our plans do not, and a heavy calling habit on your home number can justify $12 a day by itself. For data alone, 15 days of roaming costs about 30 times the $5.95 country plan.
Where the Korea plan falls short
The country plan gives you mobile data and nothing else. Check these three limits before you buy.
- No local phone number. Services that insist on a local number for sign-in will not accept the eSIM.
- One network. We ran no speed tests, so we make no claim about how its network compares with others on your route.
- A waiver with an end date. For a trip in 2027, check the K-ETA rules again.
Setting it up before you fly
Buy the plan a few days early. The QR code arrives through our website, with an email when it is ready, so you can install it at home on Wi-Fi.
Leave the eSIM line switched off until the plane lands, then turn it on. If the phone connects but no data flows, turn on data roaming for the eSIM line only. Our troubleshooting guide covers the rest.
Two more guides in this series cover the next legs of a longer trip. One covers the Bahrain Grand Prix at Sepang. The other covers staying connected when a typhoon hits Japan. Canadians weighing a carrier pass can read our Rogers Asia pass comparison.

Methodology
How we did this comparison
Lotsotravel prices come from our live v3 product API (/api/v3/products?country=KR and ?region=asia), read on 25 September 2026. We quote the VIP price, which is what you pay when you arrive through a link on this blog, and fixed-data plans only. Where the same plan name appeared more than once, every copy carried the same price. The network claim covers our South Korea country plans only (countryCount 1 in the API): all of them listed LG U+ on that date. Our supplier's catalogue can change, which is what the carrierVerified date tracks.
Roaming prices come from Verizon's TravelPass country list and AT&T's International Day Pass page, both read on 25 September 2026. Pocket Wi-Fi details come from one rental company's product page. That page showed a price without saying whether it was per day or per rental, so we left the price out.
Event dates come from the organisers: the Seoul Metropolitan Government, the official Hangang drone show site and the Korea Tourism Organization's VisitKorea site. Outdoor events can move for weather. Entry rules come from the Korean embassy notices published by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
What this post does not measure: we ran no speed tests in Korea, we did not meter how much data Naver Map, Papago or k.ride use, and we do not compare customer support. The plans are data only, with no Korean phone number.
