Bahrain Grand Prix Malaysia eSIM: Sepang Guide (2026)

For the 2026 Bahrain Grand Prix in Malaysia, a 10GB, 5-day Malaysia eSIM ($5.95) covers the weekend. Formula 1 moved the Bahrain round to Sepang for 2-4 October. On 25 September, carrier stc Bahrain cut its Rova roaming price for Malaysia to 3.30 dinars (about $8.78) for 20GB, until 5 October.

What changed this week for Sepang race fans?

Transport and roaming prices both changed in the last week before the race. The city bus operator will run 95 free shuttle buses to the circuit. The airport train put a race pass on sale on 22 September.

Then on 25 September, Telecompaper reported that stc had taken 67 percent off selected Rova packs for Malaysia. Rova is the carrier's travel eSIM app. This one matters if you are flying from Bahrain. Gulf Air starts direct flights to the city on 29 September. If you are on stc, the promo section below sets its price next to ours.

When is the Bahrain Grand Prix at Sepang, and why is it there?

The race weekend runs Friday 2 to Sunday 4 October, as round 16 of the season. The official ticket announcement confirms the dates but gives no reason for the move. The event keeps its Bahrain name, and Gulf Air stays title sponsor.

A local news site, The Rakyat Post, confirms the 3pm start. It also warns that arriving at 14:30 may not leave enough time.

The lap is 5.543 km and the race runs 56 laps. General admission started at $219 for three days, and grandstands at $350.

Every session is in the afternoon, which is when storms arrive. The national weather service says October is a transition month, when clear mornings build into afternoon thunderstorms. Pack a poncho and a zip pocket for your phone.

Video is what breaks the budget. Netflix puts high-definition streaming at up to 3GB an hour. One replay of qualifying at the hotel can use a whole day's data.

How do you get from KLIA to Sepang Circuit and stay connected?

Take the free shuttle from Terminal 2 of Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA). It runs all three race days from 7am to midnight, every 10 to 15 minutes. It picks up at the Level 1 bus hub there and at four other stops nearby. More shuttles run inside the circuit.

Staying in the city? The race train pass costs 200 ringgit for six trips between the city's central station and the airport. The ride takes about 33 minutes, and the operator says the pass saves up to 130 ringgit. At the airport you switch to the shuttle.

Driving costs more. Three-day parking runs 244 to 651 ringgit by zone, and some cheap zones have sold out.

You need data for every step: the train pass, the shuttle queue, your ticket at the gate, and finding your group afterwards. Install the eSIM before you fly and your phone connects when you land.

stc Rova Malaysia promo vs a travel eSIM: which is cheaper for Gulf fans?

The carrier promo is cheaper at 20GB, and our eSIM is cheaper at 10GB. Telecompaper reports the promo as 20GB for 30 days at 3.30 dinars, for the carrier's own customers. At the Central Bank of Bahrain's fixed rate of 0.376 dinars per dollar, that is about $8.78.

If you already use that carrier and want 20GB or a long stay, take the promo. It costs 17 cents less than our 20GB plan and lasts 30 days.

If you use that carrier and 10GB is enough, our plan costs $5.95. That is about $2.83 less.

On any other carrier, buy our plan. The carrier's launch release says anyone can use the Rova app. We could not find this promo on the carrier's own site, though, so we cannot confirm other users get that price.

Set it up at home, in this order:

• Buy the plan a few days before you fly.
• When the email says your QR code is ready, open it on our website and install it over home Wi-Fi.
• Give the new line a clear name and set it as your data line.
• Keep your home line on for calls, texts and bank codes, with its data roaming off.
• After you land, turn on data roaming for the new line only.

Installing does not start the plan. The clock starts when the eSIM first connects after you land.

What this guide does not cover

We did not test either network's speed at the circuit, or how it copes with a full grandstand. We did not buy a promo pack. We have no information on Wi-Fi inside the circuit. Our plans are data-only, with no local phone number, so local texts will not reach you on them. Session times are converted from the official UTC schedule, so check the app on the day.
