Telus Easy Roam is a daily roaming fee. Each day you use your phone outside Canada, Telus adds $18 to your bill in its 200+ international destinations, or $16 in the U.S., and your plan works abroad: your data, unlimited talk and text, and your Canadian number. Days you don't use the phone cost nothing.
Telus also sells Easy Roam Travel Passes, fixed blocks of 3 to 30 days that cost far less than paying by the day on most trips. This guide covers how Easy Roam is triggered, what each pass costs and covers, and whether either is worth it. Every figure comes from Telus's travel page, read on 30 October 2026.

Key takeaways
- Easy Roam is $18/day internationally and $16/day in the U.S., charged on days you use data, send a text, call or check voicemail.
- Incoming texts do not trigger Easy Roam, and each day runs until 11:59 p.m. local time.
- Telus Travel Passes run from $25 (U.S., 3 days) to $125 (Global, 30 days). The Europe pass is $50 for 14 days.
- Turkey is not on the Europe or Asia pass lists, so it needs Easy Roam or the Global pass.
- Easy Roam and every pass spend your Telus plan's data.
How does Telus Easy Roam work?
You add Easy Roam in My TELUS or by texting ROAM to 7626, and Telus says there is no need to remove it when you come home, since it can only activate while you travel. Abroad, it switches on the first time you do one of these on a partner network:
- use cellular data, including background app refresh, push notifications, OS updates and find-my-device pings, all of which Telus lists as triggers when roaming is left on
- send a text
- make or answer a call
- check voicemail
Receiving a text does not count. Once triggered, Telus's FAQ says the day stays active until 11:59 p.m. in the time zone you are travelling in. Connecting to Wi-Fi never triggers a charge.
What the fee includes: all the data in your monthly plan (shared data too), calls to Canada and within the country you are in, and incoming and outgoing texts to any number. Usage beyond your plan is charged at the rates you would pay in Canada, and you can add a data top-up. Calls to a third country are billed at pay-per-use rates, and Easy Roam can only be managed through self-serve, not by a Telus representative.
What does Telus Easy Roam cost?
Easy Roam is $18 a day internationally and $16 a day in the U.S., before tax. Telus's page does not publish a cap on the number of charged days. Some Telus plans change the rate: Telus says all 5G+ Complete plans include Easy Roam from $5 a day, and 5G+ Complete Explore plans include data, talk and text in 68 international destinations.
If you roam with no Easy Roam on the account, Telus's pay-per-use rates apply:
| Where | Calls | Texts | Data |
|---|---|---|---|
| United States | $1.60/min | $0.75 | $5.00/MB |
| International zone 1 | $2.00/min | $0.75 | $5.00/MB |
| International zone 2 | $3.50/min | $0.75 | $10.00/MB |
| Cruise ships and airplanes | $7.00/min | $0.75 | Not available |
At $5.00 per MB, a single 100 MB photo backup would cost $500, which is why Telus pushes Easy Roam or a pass for anyone travelling with data on.
What are Telus Travel Passes?
A Travel Pass covers a fixed number of days in one region. It includes your plan's data plus unlimited talk and text in the eligible destinations. You add it in My TELUS or by texting a code to 7626, and it activates when you arrive. Most passes must be used within 30 days of being added; the Europe 30-day and Global 30-day passes allow 45.
| Telus Travel Pass | Price | Easy Roam, same days |
|---|---|---|
| USA 3-day | $25 | $48 |
| USA 7-day | $40 | $112 |
| USA 14-day | $60 | $224 |
| Caribbean and Mexico 7-day | $50 | $126 |
| Caribbean and Mexico 14-day | $70 | $252 |
| Latin America 7-day | $60 | $126 |
| Asia 14-day | $70 | $252 |
| Europe 14-day | $50 | $252 |
| Europe 30-day | $60 | $540 |
| Australia and New Zealand 7-day | $50 | $126 |
| Global 14-day | $100 | $252 |
| Global 30-day | $125 | $540 |
The right-hand column multiplies the daily rate by every day of the pass, so read it as the cost of using your phone daily with no pass. In Europe, Easy Roam is $36 for two days and $54 for three, so the $50 pass wins from day three. In the U.S., two days of Easy Roam ($32) already cost more than the $25 three-day pass.
If you are on Koodo, the prices and passes are the same; see our Koodo Easy Roam explainer.
Which countries does Telus Easy Roam cover?
Easy Roam covers the U.S. and 200+ international destinations across Asia and the Middle East, Europe, Africa, Mexico and the Caribbean, Central and South America and Oceania. Telus's FAQ lists every one.
The passes cover narrower lists:
- Europe ($50 for 14 days, $60 for 30): the EU, the UK (England, Scotland and Wales listed separately), Switzerland, Norway, Iceland, the Balkans, Ukraine, Moldova, Monaco, Malta, Gibraltar, the Faroe Islands and Greenland, among others.
- Asia ($70 for 14 days): Bangladesh, China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam.
- Latin America ($60 for 7 days): Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Panama, Paraguay, Peru and Uruguay.
- Caribbean and Mexico ($50 for 7 days, $70 for 14): Mexico plus 28 other destinations, from the Bahamas and Jamaica to Aruba, Turks and Caicos and Guyana.
- Australia and New Zealand ($50 for 7 days).
- Global ($100 for 14 days, $125 for 30) for trips that cross regions.
Turkey falls through the gap. It is an Easy Roam destination, but it is on neither the Europe nor the Asia pass list. Ten days in Istanbul is $180 on Easy Roam or $100 on the Global 14-day pass.
Is Telus Easy Roam worth it?
For one or two days, it is the simplest option Telus sells: no setup, and your number behaves as it does at home. For anything longer, a Telus Travel Pass undercuts it, often by $100 or more.
Both share one cost that is easy to miss. They spend your Telus plan's data, so a fortnight of maps, photos and video calls abroad comes out of the allowance you need back home. If what you mostly need abroad is data, a travel eSIM is cheaper still and keeps your Telus allowance intact.
Can Telus customers use a travel eSIM instead?
Yes, as long as your phone is unlocked and supports eSIM. Telus's own FAQ makes the trade-off clear: Easy Roam keeps your plan, number, calls and texts working with no QR code to scan, while a travel eSIM is typically data-only. Most travellers run both, the eSIM for data and the Telus line for the number.
Here is a Lotsotravel eSIM next to Telus's cheapest option for the same trip:
| Trip | Cheapest Telus option | Lotsotravel eSIM |
|---|---|---|
| 3 days in New York | USA 3-day pass, $25 CAD | U.S. 3 GB / 30 days, $4.95 USD (~$7 CAD) |
| 7 days in Cancún, 8 GB | Caribbean and Mexico 7-day pass, $50 CAD | Mexico 10 GB / 10 days, $19.95 USD (~$28 CAD) |
| 14 days in Italy, 10 GB | Europe 14-day pass, $50 CAD | Europe 10 GB / 15 days, $8.95 USD (~$13 CAD) |
| 14 days in Japan, 10 GB | Asia 14-day pass, $70 CAD | Japan 10 GB / 15 days, from $7.95 USD (~$11 CAD) |
| 10 days in Turkey, 10 GB | Global 14-day pass, $100 CAD | Europe 10 GB / 10 days, $8.95 USD (~$13 CAD) |
The Europe plan covers 33 countries, Turkey included, on one eSIM. To keep Telus from charging while the eSIM handles data, switch Data Roaming off on the Telus line. Incoming texts don't trigger Easy Roam, so bank codes still arrive free. Making or answering a call, or sending a text, on the Telus line does start an $18 day, so use WhatsApp or FaceTime over the eSIM's data for calls.

The short version
Telus Easy Roam is $18 a day abroad and $16 a day in the U.S., charged only on days you use data, text, call or check voicemail. Telus Travel Passes cover 3 to 30 days for $25 to $125, and the Europe pass at $50 for 14 days wins from day three. Turkey needs Easy Roam or the Global pass. For data alone, an eSIM from $4.95 USD costs less than any of them.

Methodology
How we did this comparison
Every Telus figure in this post was read from Telus's travel page (telus.com/en/mobility/travel) on 2026-10-30, including its FAQ and destination lists. Prices are in Canadian dollars before tax and apply to Telus consumer monthly plans.
Telus's page is not fully consistent with itself. The price cards and the destination FAQ both give Easy Roam as $16 a day in the U.S. and $18 a day internationally, while one older FAQ answer still says $14 and $16. We use the $16 and $18 figures. The page also does not publish a cap on charged Easy Roam days, so we do not assume one; every trip of three days or more below is priced on a Travel Pass, which is cheaper than Easy Roam whatever the cap.
Lotsotravel prices are VIP prices from our live catalogue on 2026-10-30, in US dollars, which is what a reader who follows a link from this post pays. Canadian-dollar equivalents use the Bank of Canada rate of 1.3985 CAD per USD for 29 October 2026. We compare data cost only.
